I need sleep. Exactly 7 hours or I am a hot mess. One of the boys will wake up around 5 am-always. I know I need to be in bed by 9:30, earlier if I am going for a run in the morning.
If the boys wake me up at night- which they have been this week, I have less will power and am a complete zombie. These are the days you might see me shuffling down to the hospitality room (has anyone seen the new chairs?) at work or taking a backflip into a bagel tray. I know this about myself, so I stay away. I am so thankful that my classroom is no where near the Food Room. It's like a carb lovers Thanksgiving 2 days a week where I work. Plus with all the birthdays, students are always bringing in cupcakes and cookies. These I share with our classroom captain. Call it a Beaver Bonus- whatever...just eat it and eat it fast, I say.
Most people need at least 8 hours of sleep a day. I started meditating about 2 weeks ago to relax my mind. When I do this at night I fall asleep faster. If I struggle with falling asleep I get out of bed and write a few things down, maybe a To Do list, or read for 10 minutes. My clock is turned around so I don't stare at it.
My husband is a night owl. I don't know how he does it, but he usually comes to bed about 10:30. He rarely wakes me. We have a firm bed because he has back problems so it doesn't wake me up when he back dives in. We traveled to my parents this weekend, Toby ended up with a double ear infection and had little sleep Sunday night. Tuesday night Matt kicked the dog on accident when he shut the lights off at 10, James woke up at 1am then 3 am. He keeps dreaming about HARRY POTTER! Toby was up at 5am because he's in charge and thought there was a party going on. That was not a good night for sleep. I'm hoping to get those hours back this weekend. I will get a nap in at nap time- MAYBE- fingers crossed.
Because I am tired, I try to stay home more. This is good because the boys usually only wake up when they are about to get sick. So they need rest too. I cancelled an appointment after work on Thursday because I knew it would be too much since I was tired. I tell people NO when I am tired. If not I end up more tired and stressed out. I have NO willpower when I am tired and stressed out so I do not put myself in that situation.
I recently read somewhere that consuming gelatin at night can help relieve stress and leads to longevity...Google it- anyone out there in the Blog-o-verse hear of this? Time for a JELL-O Jiggler!

I am dying! I cannot stop laughing about "because he is in charge and he thought there was a party going on" Seriously. You crack me up! But it is so true, they wake up and want to play with nary a clue that it is still the middle of the night. Your blog is great! Funny, inspiring, and real. Thank you Julie! ~ Dayna
Thanks Dayna! I checked out your blog and laughed too. Bathroom remodels are the worst! Looks like it was worth it though! Thanks for reading! Do you live near Wilmington? I grew up there and remember a few Haddons.
