Day 8: It's NOT a Diet

I Googled diet- I had 488,000,000 hits. Where do you start? Low Carb- No Carb- Carb Lovers- OH MY GAWD!  When I started losing people started asking me what diet I was on.  I didn't have a name for it- My nutritionist had me reading labels- so many servings of carbs for breakfast/ lunch/ dinner-  I think back to the beginning stages and when I first limited my carbs I switched from McDonald's Breakfast Bagel to a Bacon, Egg and Cheese Toaster Scramble.  For snack I think I had an oatmeal cream pie!  Ha!

I slowly switch over to eating less processed food.  I pull a ton of my meals from a Mediterranean Cookbook and because of Toby being on a gluten free diet, a Paleo Cooking Cookbook. I think there is a negative connotation with the word DIET.  It meant eventually I wouldn't be on a DIET.

This is about 6 months before I was pregnant with James.
I am with part of my fabulous family.

I keep my dinners simple- 5 ingredients or less.  Beyond that- I have no time.  I use a crockpot- a lot! I also keep a list of meals in my computer so I can pick and choose.  We try new things often, and if we like it I add it to our list of meals, if not- oh well.

My boys cook with me as much as possible-that way they are invested in our meals.  Tonight they helped make smoothies.  James put grapes, peaches and grapefruit in his.  I added vanilla protein powder, sparkling water, ice and voila! They both drank a cup full.  Thanks to Williams-Sonoma and Aunt Marge we have a Popsicle maker that helps our sweet tooth in the summer. We put fruit in before the juice.  It saves us from nightly trips to Dairy Queen or TCBY.
