“Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don’t matter,
and those who matter don’t mind.”
In a behavior chain,
one thing
leads to another.
In an earlier post I eluded to people asking me what diet I was following. I would just answer- healthy foods. Talking about food makes me want to eat. Today, if I am stressed out or tired the same thing happens. I unfriended a Facebook friend because their status updates were food posts. Seriously- every 2 hours it was a cornucopia of deliciousness flashing before my eyes.
I also broke old thinking habits. When doubt would tip toe in like James on Christmas Eve, I would say I used to be that way, now I'm different. I wasn't just interested in trying to lose. I was committed- no matter what!
Look, we all have to eat. Food addictions or overeating, whatever you want to call it, are different then drug addictions or being an alcoholic. You don't have to have those things to survive. On a scale of 0-10 (zero being starving) I kept myself between a 3 and a 5 at all times. I eat small snacks between meals. I've found I eat less, have more energy and am not starving by dinner. My boys are snackers, too. I'm the mom bringing in 15 snacks a month because James cannot survive from 8-12:00 w/out eating.
Someone asked for a list, so here are a few.
We eat fruit- apples, oranges and bananas- mostly. I buy other fruit on sale.
Greek yogurt or light yogurt
string cheese,
Baked Triscuits w/ laughing cow cheese or salsa
edamame
baby carrots
Smoothies (I buy a bag of frozen fruit to keep in freezer)/ popsicles
Applesauce w/ cranberries
I made ants on a log once...no one ate the log
Fruit Strips- NOT roll-ups
PB on anything- on by itself
We make our own Lara Bars
Trail Mix- I buy dried cranberries, sunflower seeds and almonds and mix it myself.
We have an air popcorn popper- It's nightly entertainment for Toby
I don't use mayo, I use Garlic Hummus, Spicy Guacamole and my new favorite Mustard w honey...
Since we are on a budget I cannot afford to buy whatever, whenever. We shop at Aldi and WalMart. I have a $100 a week budget for everything, including household items like detergent, diapers and TP- I swear James uses a roll a day. We don't eat out. I can't afford prepackaged snacks, plus they have a lot of sugar, contain wheat and If I'm tired or stressed I may eat the whole box...so I stay away. Your turn, what do you eat as a snack?
One more quote today:
"You are braver than you believe, stronger than you seem and smarter than you think." Christopher Robin

I'm so excited that friends are reading this. I had 200 hits yesterday and someone was from Alaska! GAH! I had James convinced it was Santa at the North Pole checking on him! HA!

Great ideas. I've gotten Maggie into hummus so veggies with hummus are one of our favorites. Love the edamame. I always forget that one.
I like giving Maggie pistachios. Tasty and nutritious.
Julie, your blog rocks!! Thank you for the reminders.
